Siteworks: Pitfalls and Problems (Pilot course)
Course Details
This one day course is designed to give consulting engineers and project managers a firm founding in the principals and risks of monitoring siteworks and construction contract management.
Delegates who attend this course will -
Be aware of the different roles, responsibilities and risks of Consultant Engineers and Project Managers engaged on site work
Have a greater appreciation of the importance of consultants not working outside their experience and qualifications as well including the potential consequences of failing to do so
Be aware of how the conduct of a consultant during site visits and meetings can influence how effective they are at undertaking their role
Have a greater understanding of how proper communications and contract administration when working on site will reduce the risks to both the project and the consultant
Have learned to recognize situations during siteworks when additional risks and liabilities may be transferred from another party to the consultant - be this either intentionally or unintentionally
Be able to deal sensitively with Client issues relating to sitework
Be able to identify other common pitfalls of working on site and develop strategies for dealing with them

Negligence and Liability for Engineers
Course Details
This is a one-day Engineering New Zealand workshop that focuses on the engineer’s liability for negligence. Co-presented by Stuart Meakins from Laonda Advisory and a lawyer, this workshop will consider both technical manifestations of negligence and legal liability that flows.
If you attend this workshop you will gain:
an understanding of how the law approaches questions of negligence.
an appreciation of how some practices you encounter in the workplace could expose one to allegations of negligence, and of the consequences that flow from this.
an understanding of some steps one can take to ensure that one does not face liability for negligence.

Introduction to Contracts & Contract Management
Course Details
A foundation course on the fundamentals of contract law in NZ. This course will describe the legal principals and various pieces of legislation that govern contracts on NZ. Delegates attending this course will understand what does and what does not constitute a contract as well as how seemingly subtle differences in wording can alter the legal interpretation of a contract clause or instruction.
